eeeek snow!
So I've been riding alot-- for me, for now-- lately and this fall. Like Andrew, I always thought riding in the fall was the best time of year. The season is over, the pressure is off, it's riding for riding's sake. And this year, even though all my riding is now just riding for riding's sake, I loved the fall. We had an amazing fall in the Ottawa-Gatineau Parc area this year. The Gatineau is always an epic place to ride in the fall with the colours, the hills, the quiet roads, rivers and rural villages. But this year was really nice. We had an extended Indian Summer, and I rode alot with Julian Hine. Julian was in his first year of retirement from racing (MTB bikes). And He was between jobs. I work from home, and have a flexible schedule. So, we had some really great mid-day rides, probably more than my clients would have appreciated.
A couple of weeks ago, I went to Calgary for work, and it snowed. I couldn't wait to get home--to Chelsea, sunshine, warm weather and riding. Last week, the time changed the days got shorter, colder, wetter, and I didn't ride. Today, I sat in my home office and around mid-day I watched it snow, hard, for about an hour.
I guess it's over for this year and I'll miss it. Julian left today for his winter job in Whistler. Today it snowed. Skiing can't be beat here, and I was torn between being excited and ... bummed today- for sure- knowing that there really are only a few nice days left outside on my bike.
Ahhh well, in the spring I'll feel the same way about skiing.
