Who Needs Arizona? 14C in Toronto!

14C in Toronto in mid-January, definitely a day to get out and do some miles. Matt, Joe and I stormed out to the north of the city yesterday, sweltering in our kit, all of us overdressed; it's funny how quickly you forget what the appropriate clothing is for a given temperature.

The timing for this warm day was perfect, just the night before I had fallen into a bit of a funk and a big ride was just what I needed. Of course a good coffee in the morning does help the depression a bit. Really though, we couldn't have asked for a better day. Weather reports had been calling for showers all day and we saw nothing but grey skies, not a drop of rain to be seen.

Joe, as always, set a heavy tempo, with Matt and I suffering along beside him in turns. The hip held up well and before we knew it we were out of the city and flying along country roads. With fenders rubbing and chains groaning along cycling at this time of the year is tougher than it needs to be; none of our winter bikes really work that well, the extra energy expended must be quite a lot.

I yo-yoed on all the climbs, still having the excuse of being out of shape to justify it, but in the end finished the ride feeling pretty strong. For 5hours we pounded the pedals and got home just as it was getting dark. Perfect timing to end a perfect day. 14C in Toronto in mid-January, definitely a day to get out and do some miles.
