Tormented Ullrich Retires

jan ullrich"I feel like a serious criminal although I have nothing to reproach myself," says Ullrich. "People have made a name for themselves at my cost. Some were 100 percent lies. I wished I had gotten more support from some people, but I am not bitter." Dogged by allegations of doping one of the most gifted cyclists of recent times retires... It's all over the web, but here's another link.

"Monday's Bonus Rant: Ullrich hangs up his tar-speckled jersey

Ullrich is something of a tragic figure. One Tour victory and he spent the next decade unraveling like a thrift-shop sweater - partying like a college kid; getting busted for amphetamines and serving a six-month suspension; crashing his Porsche (into a bike rack, of all things) and then fleeing the scene; and famously struggling to stay at fighting weight.

Tuft wins la Vuelta a Cuba

Svein Pedalmag.com has the scoop Bruce Wenting called in and Tuft maintained his GC lead in the final stage of the tour of Cuba today. Tuft actually crashed with 400m to go in the stage--which ended in a bunch sprint--however, this had no impact on his time and he won the overall classification after 14 days of racing. Tuft leads Vuelta a Cuba

Canada's Svein Tuft of Symmetrics leads the 2.2 ranked 13 stage Vuelta a Cuba with one stage remaining. Tuft took the GC lead with a dominant performance in stage 11a 30km Time Trial, where he won by almost a minute and half. Things are looking good for the 'S'Team to take it's first major international stage race win later today--our monies on them doing it.

Symmetrics has a six rider team in Cuba, along with Tuft are:

Andrew Randell
Andrew Pinfold
Marsh Cooper
Geoff Kabush
Christian Meier

Christian currently sits 2nd in the overall U23 classification and the team is second overall in the Team's GC. Looks like a good start to the road season for Symmetrics.
